Finding Keywords for Better Content Creation

by Your Content Helper Leave a Comment

Keywords are very important for your content marketing strategy and your on-page SEO optimization plan. But you don’t want to use the same keyword on every page, nor do you want to use the same keyword too many times on any one page. When it comes to finding keywords, more is not always better. Instead, using keywords strategically – as mentioned in this blog post about SEO tips – in the header, the title, and your alt tags as well as within the content is essential.

Additionally, you’ll want to find keywords that include more than one word (long-tail keywords), modifying words that explain your keywords, and you’ll also want to include your competitors’ keywords in your content too.  Finding new keywords will help inform your content going forward.

To find more keywords:

Study Your Audience

You don’t just study your audience one time as you grow your business. Instead, you should always be studying your audience through time. That’s how you’ll get to know them and understand more about their buying journey. When you know what their journey entails, you will also start understanding the buyer’s intent more, which can help with finding keywords to use.

Study Your Niche

Knowing everything you can understand about the niche you’ve chosen to help your audience with – and why you’re the right person to help – can also help you find the right words to use in your content. When you understand who the industry leaders are in your niche, who the influencers are, and what drives the industry, you’ll be able to generate a lot more content.

Understand and Define Your Goals

Develop your goals using the SMART goal process. Your goals need to be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely. You may need to use different keywords or forms of the keyword depending on the goal that you’ve set for the traffic you want to generate. For example, if you’re trying to bring former website visitors back to your site, you will use different keywords and methods than you might if it’s a brand-new person you want to attract.

List Relevant Broad Topics

Another way to generate more keywords is to simply write down a broad topic list as quickly as you can think about it. Once you have a list of broad topic ideas, you can narrow things down more and extrapolate keywords from that information that you will want to include in the content that you publish.

Finding Keywords by Spying on Your Competition

A great way to find popular and effective keywords is to spy on your competition to find out what keywords they’re using. You can find out by what words are used in the titles, headers, and so forth as keywords, but you can also spy on them using software such as with iSpionage.com so you can see how effective their keywords are before you use them.

Use Other Keyword Research Tools

There are numerous keyword research tools that you can try using today too. A few to check out are Soovle.com, Jaaxy.com  and of course, you should sign up for and use Google Search Console and their Keyword Planner as your first choice. After all, you need to do what Google says works for search since they’re still the number one search engine.

Ensuring that you include the right keywords in your search and that you use data to guide you is essential if you want to use keywords to attract your audience, develop your content marketing plan, and improve your search engine optimization.
